AJL Conference a Hit!

I was delighted to participate in the panel discussion, “From Concept to Book”, at the Association of Jewish Libraries conference in New York City, June 19, 2017. The other panelists were: Tammar Stein, Jacqueline Jules, Wayne Marks & Allison Marks. We all talked about  the writing and publishing process. It was fascinating to share our ideas with the librarians in the packed room.

Signing “44 Hours or Strike!” at the OLA Conference

I was thrilled to meet two fellow authors from Second Story Press at the OLA Conference last week in Toronto. Patrick Crowe, has written a moving graphic biography of Susanna Moodie’s, Roughing It in the Bush.  My writer-friend, Rona Arato, was signing her new book, The Ship to Nowhere: On Board the Exodus.  Both authors tell their stories through skilful prose and remarkable illustrations.

44 Hours or StrikeThe teacher’s guide for 44 Hours or Strike is now online at the Second Story Press website: http://s3.amazonaws.com/secondstorypress.production/files/111/original/44HoursorStrike_TeachersGuide.pdf
In the guide, you’ll find discussion questions, vocabulary, and extension activities in language arts, social studies, media literacy, drama, music, and art. You’ll also find added resources–print and non-print–to extend the activities further. It’s been a labour of love to create this guide and I hope it will help teachers enhance their study of my novel.

George Brown College Labour Fair 2016
George Brown College (Toronto) will be having an amazing Labour Fair this week (Mar. 29-Apr. 1, 2016). The theme is “The Right to Rebel”. I’ve been invited to talk about my latest book, 44 Hours or Strike! at Rosa Fracassa’s History of Costume course, Thurs. Mar. 31, 10 a.m., Room E327, Casa Loma campus, 146 Kendal Avenue. All events are open to the public.

Two Readings and a Lecture

It’s been a busy November 2015! I spoke about 44 Hours or Strike! at the Free Times Café (Yiddish Vinkl) on Thurs. Nov. 5. We had a great time talking about the garment industry in Toronto and singing Yiddish songs together.

On Wed. Nov. 11, I spoke on the topic of “Uncertain Haven: Canada and the Jewish Displaced Persons” at the Ekstein Library as part of  Holocaust Education Week in the GTA. It’s always great to have such an appreciative audience. And we even had to bring in more chairs!

Finally, on Mon. Nov. 30, I spoke at the Terraces of Baycrest / Wagman Centre about 44 Hours or Strike!  It was a pleasure to read from my book, talk about research and writing, and sing Yiddish songs together. An added bonus was hearing people’s stories about growing up in Toronto.2015-11-05 14.32.54 Anne_Dublin_HEW_Nov11,2015 Baycrest_Terrace2_44Hours

Book Launch: 44 Hours or Strike!

Thanks to everyone who attended the launch of 44 Hours or Strike! on Sun. Oct. 25/15 at the United Steelworkers Hall in Toronto. It was a wonderful event–reading, telling stories, singing, shmoozing, and eating 1930s-era treats. Now the book is truly on its way! Photo credit: Errol Young.
